Dihydroergotamine has been a mainstay of migraine treatment for years. It is a natural (plant bearing) substance and is highly effective in stopping migraines, however, it is not absorbed through the stomach. We use it by injection and it does come in a nasal inhaler, which can be hit or miss in absorption and is unfortunately very expensive.
We were looking forward to the release of Levedex, however the FDA has issued a delay (once again). This time it is because of a concern about the manufacturing process, not the drug itself. You can read more about it here. We will keep our fingers crossed that this delay is short-lived.
